Sawasdee Ka - Day 3 in Changers!

Monday - 2 June 08

Rick and I are absolutely loving it here in Chiang Mai. There is lots to see and do, the people are friendly and funny and weather is that slight bit cooler than down south. The place we are staying in is great. Modern, quiet and so close to everything we are saving heaps by walking everywhere and not catching tuk tuks. The hotel has a communal kitchenette downstairs near the reception area and the guest can go and have coffee and toast which they set up each morning from 7am-10am, you can sit and watch tv in the dining area whilst having breakfast and its all included in your room rate. Another saving!

Well today has been a really busy day walking everywhere and having a really good look around. First thing was breakfast at McDonalds then a walk around the Bazaar so we could decided where we would go for dinner tonight. I actually bought a pair of platform thongs for 99 baht, I have worn the only pair I bought with me out with doing so much walking. What a shame!

Our room here in the hotel is on the 3rd floor and for some reason the cable tv reception isn't that great, we spoke to the receptionist about it yesterday and she sent the maintenance guy to check it out, he replaced the antenna cable and re - tuned the tele and it didn't make any difference so they offered to room move us to the 5th floor where the tv reception is perfect but the room only has 2 single beds. We told them not to worry we will stay put. Well it got the better of Rick today because he is missing the Bloomberg channel and has to go downstairs to the dining room to watch it, so he asked them if we could room move tomorrow to the 5th floor and are happy to have 2 single beds. So tomorrow at noon we room move.

This arvo we got a tuk tuk to the Big C shopping centre which is a fair way from where we are. I need to buy some tobacco and thought maybe they would sell Australian tobacco at a large shopping centre, but they don't but we managed to find KFC and Rick couldn't help himself and had to have something to eat. Our tuk tuk driver was great, he drove us there and then waited for half an hour to bring us back, he spoke good english too.

Rick and I decided to explore this afternoon by foot and headed in a different direction than we normally go, we found China Town and of course the markets which are absolutely huge, just streets and streets of steet stalls and a huge inside market with fruit and veg on the bottom floor and then 4 stories of clothes, watches, shoes, you name it they had it. It was wicked. We got a bit lost trying to find our way back and so ended up going around and around in circles, finally we headed back to where we came into Chinatown and then retraced our steps and ended up back at the hotel.

Tonight we walked down to the Chiang Mai night bazaar for dinner and we had Duck and mixed veg and steamed rice, I love duck so I was excited and it was sooooo yummy. We watched the kids performing on stage whilst we ate dinner and then moved on to to Kalare bazaar to watch the Cultural show. They had traditional Thai dancing and some young Thai guy doing hip hop dancing to Nelly. We sat there for hours and didn't get home until 10.30pm, thats a late night for us. We seem to be spending more time out and about in Changers than we have in the other places we have been and we are enjoying it heaps.

Tomorrow will be an easy day as we can't room move until noon. We are going to go down to the boat wharf to book a 2 hour cruise on the Mae Ping River for Wednesday. We want to spread out sightseeing out over the 3 weeks so aren't any rush to do everything all at once.

Anyway our day has been full, Until Tomorrow!

Kob Ka (Thank You)
