Day 3 in Pattaya

Monday - 12 May 08

So we are up to day 3 in Pattaya and we are over it! Its a great city (for younger folk) but not our scene. There really is not much for a couple of oldies like us. If you are younger and into nightclubs, partying, girlie bars and lady boys then it would be great, but there are only so many streets and markets you can explore and places you can eat at and after dark it is a really 'in your face' place and it can get really annoying.

We strolled the city for most of the morning, posted some postcards and went everywhere trying to find a post office that they don't have and still looking for those 'non-existant' birthday cards. Rick called into a dentist today and had his teeth checked out, the dentist here are very good and very cheap which is why I guess so many foreigners come here for dental work and cosmetic surgery. Anyway, Ricks teeth have been giving him problems for a while now and the dentist has put him on antibiotics because his gums are infected and get this! he needs 7 teeth pulled out and 5 fillings and a plate made to replace the teeth he will loose. Ha! Ha! maybe a few weeks of silence will be good. Lol. He has to take these antibiotics for 6 days before they can even touch his mouth and if they clear up the infection he can go to any dentist and have the work done. I would say when we get to Chiang Mai it will take place because we plan on being there for about a month if we get our visa extension.

We have booked our bus ticket to Bangkok (2 hours) and will be leaving here Wednesday. We will change buses in Bangkok and travel on to Hua Hin which is 3 hours south. A couple of days there and then over to the island of Koh Tao, which is where our friends Kez & Wes were married in January. We will probably be there at least 5 days then we head up North to Chiang Mai. So to anyone contemplating travelling Thailand save up your dental and cosmetic work and have it all done here. To anyone travelling to Thailand and don't wish to visit the sleezy cities and dirty ones, avoid Bangkok and Pattaya. There are much better and friendlier cities to vist in Thailand.

So other than that today was just a day of looking around, dental visits and just getting over the place. Tomorrow we hope to get a songteaw to Jomtien Beach (15 mins) which we have been told is much the same as Pattaya only nicer with a nicer beach so we will check it out.

So folks a really unexciting day. Stayed tuned for tomorrow hopefully something may have improved.

To my number 2 Son, Ben - HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow and I am still trying to find that Birthday Card and the post office, have a good day and make it count. To all our grandchildren, we miss you all and can't wait to see you all in July.
